Who were the winners at The Melbourne Cup 2025 Golf Tournament

Who were the winners at The Melbourne Cup 2025 Golf Tournament

On Friday, 23rd May 2025, we hosted our annual Melbourne Cup golf tournament, and what a day it was! With a record turnout of 78 players from a mix of nationalities and handicap levels, this year’s event was our biggest yet.

We returned to Kota Permai Golf & Country Club, one of the most scenic courses in Malaysia, and arguably, the world. Players were grouped into teams of four, with the day’s format being System 36, split across two handicap divisions: low and high.

Before tee-off, players received sponsored goodie bags, stocked their coolers, and mingled while trying to fit everyone into a group photo. Our very own Joshua Webley kicked off proceedings with a welcome briefing and rundown of the day’s format.

From there, it was all go; a full day of golf, laughs, and on-course networking. Our team roamed the course throughout the day to keep players hydrated.

Among the highlights:

Longest Drive was claimed by Howard Yap, who crushed a 277-metre drive, definitely the distance to beat next year.

Nearest to Pin went to Kesavan, landing it just 4 feet 6 inches from the hole.

The Expats Club ran a side competition for “Best Shot with a 50-Year-Old Driver”, judged purely on flair by Rachel (who admits she has no golfing experience). Creative entries included Happy Gilmore-style swings, trick shots, and even a few tree hits.

One of the biggest attractions was the Impossible Putt Challenge at the 5th hole, manned by Mathew Ledger, Noah Sabki, Faris Hamdi, and Sam Marsden. The top three closest shots earned a place in our grand final for a chance to win the coveted prize; a signed Real Madrid Figo shirt from the legendary Galácticos era.

After the final putts were made and the scores were tallied, players regrouped in the ballroom for our closing dinner and awards ceremony. With a generous buffet of barbequed meats and flowing beers, the evening was hosted by Tom Henson, who jokingly declined to compete this year, claiming: “It wouldn’t be fair — I always win.”
