While normal insurance covers an individual, group insurance provides coverage for a group of people. Group insurance is commonly taken out by an employer as an employee benefit.
Group insurance does not apply to any specific industry. Any organisation can benefit from taking out group insurance to cover its employees.
There are many benefits to taking out group coverage from talent attraction and retention, to enhancing a company’s reputation and brand. Having group insurance can also save an organisation money in the long-term as it helps to bolster a more resilient, supported workforce.
Eligibility requirements differ between providers. However, most group policies require a standard minimum of at least 3 employees. Meanwhile, to qualify for a Medical History Disregarded (MHD) policy, which covers pre-existing conditions, a minimum of 10 employees are typically required.
All policies differ, some group policies will include coverage for an employee’s dependents, while others will not. If having coverage for your employee’s dependents is priority for you, then we can source a policy that offers this. That said, it’s worth noting that policies for expat employees does not extend to cover dependents who are not expats themselves. For instance, if an expat employee from the UK has a Malaysian spouse, then their spouse will not be covered.
