Off the Clock: Jake Mowson's Squash Showdown at the Royal Lake Club

Off the Clock: Jake Mowson's Squash Showdown at the Royal Lake Club

At Melbourne Capital Group, we believe that the pursuit of passions beyond the workplace is not just encouraged; it's celebrated. We understand that the key to fostering a healthy, motivated, and fulfilled team lies not only in professional growth but also in personal fulfilment. This week, we hear from Jake Mowson, our Private Wealth Manager based in Kuala Lumpur who recently competed in a Squash Tournament at the Royal Lake Club.

On Saturday, November 18th, I had the exhilarating experience of participating in a squash tournament organised by Amarjeet and the dedicated team at the Malaysian British Society (MBS). We had an exciting face-off between our team and the players from The Lake Club. Both sides fielded eight players, each bringing their A-game to the court.

I had the honour of playing with Tunku Tarrant, our team captain for the day. His energy really set the tone for the matches, and we were ready to test our skills and endurance.

The matches lived up to the hype, each one a close contest. Representing MBS, I found myself in a gripping match and was thrilled to secure a 3-2 victory. The overall score ended in a 4-4 draw, a testament to the teamwork and skill on display from both teams. The sense of camaraderie was tangible, both on and off the court.

Adding to the event's prestige, we had Tunku Imran, a former national squash champion, in attendance. His presence really elevated the tournament, underscoring the importance of these community gatherings. We were also joined by Tunku Nadzaruddin and Tunku Naquiyuddin, which was fantastic.

The day concluded with a dinner where players from both teams mingled, shared stories, and discussed squash tactics. It was a great opportunity for everyone, from seasoned players to beginners, to connect and deepen our understanding of the game.

This successful tournament has set the stage for future events, with plans already underway to make it an annual affair. We're also exploring the idea of organising similar tournaments against other clubs in Malaysia, fostering healthy competition and unity within the squash community.

As we put away our rackets and reflected on the day's events, it was clear that the tournament had made a lasting impression on all of us. We're eagerly looking forward to more such events, confident in their role in enriching and expanding the squash scene in Malaysia.
